The summer is here and along with that comes new projects to heat up the streets. These 2 MC’s from the 845 drop a surprise project with an album title based off a play on their stage names. Aside from the album cover looking like they took it on an iPhone and uploaded it to photoshop and slapped a parental advisory sticker on it I know the raps will outshine the cover art.
Dream Chaser (Feat. Vanilla)
Blakout starts the tape off strong with a solid Verse. Great production and strong chorus. Definitely timely and a great summer time record. Remy follows up with another great verse solid execution and bars to keep you interested. Solid start for the 845 duo; sounds like victory music.
Quotables
They said the revolution won’t be televised, try was telling lies shit was syndicated/ They perform like it I was born like it, fresh up out the womb bitch I been the greatest
2 Times
Another upbeat track to get you in the summer mood. Unique concept playin off the song title repeating words 2 times. Although Kanye had a similar concept on his first album this is far from a recreation. Great transitions on the Jada and Styles back and forth. Definitely a highlight record of the album.
Quotables
Aint nothin sweet but this candy paint, now or laters/ Shopping in Australia bitch crocodiles, alligators/
Middle of the Night
Great production off rip great transition as far as sequencing is concerned. Blakout definitely started the track off correctly. Going into this tape I thought Remy was going to wash Blakout but he might be up after this joint 2-1. Sheesh!
Quotables
My empire big as Lucius, my cookies ruthless
These niggas wanna order Ruth Chris, I grab the tooth picks
Fill my pockets up with 8 balls, keep a pool stick
I swear these niggas constipated they don’t never do shit
Dance Moves
For summer vibes the production so far is incredible. Remy starts it off with a strong chorus. Again I think Blakout had the better verse and flow switches. Another solid effort.
Quotables
Extra clean, all I see is green, niggas envy me
Y’all aint started going shopping til ya scammed that PPP
Remy Vs Blak
First off this is a classic sample. I never even hear people freestyle over this beat. Glad they brought it back but big shoes to fill. Remy starts it off spitting I was into the verse til I heard a recycled “take the likes back” bar but for new listeners its dope. Blakout continues to out flow Remy on this project but overall I think Remy had the better verse on this record. Overall this shit Whoa!
Quotables
In middle school I got expelled from the property twice
Teaching kids to play craps with the monopoly dice
Stuntin On Em’ (Feat. Drawzilla)
First impression of the beat is a Ryan Leslie vibe. Drawzilla sets the track off with a catchy hook. Remy continues on with his signature in pocket flow. Blakout might have the edge on this track flow wise. Every easy listening and definitely a solid track.
Quotable
No tints so they see me laughing when niggas hating
Hit the mall and watch my bitch and watch her spend crazy
Blowing bags like niggas that’s hyperventalating
You Understand (Feat. India Invonna)
This is what I’ve been waiting for the entire project for Remy to get out his comfort zone. Chorus is hard easily the best song on the project so far. Blakout doesn’t disrupt the momentum this might be the highlight of the album. India Invonna outro was a dope closer and shows song structure is no longer is needed if you got that heat.
Quotes
The chorus (too hard)
Go Off Tho’
Beat caught me from the jump. Blakout speaks on his struggles with haters and encourages listeners to keep going no matter what. Blakout solo track was a victory.
Quotable:
Really got it off the muscle so Im talking my shit
Like how you gonna win the race if you walking and shit
You Know My Body
This is very great record I can definitely hear the west coast influence in Remy’s bars. I like this joint a lot, definitely a vibe and gives versatility to the album.
Quotable
You niggas wasn’t outside
Wasn’t no borough if you wasn’t thoro you couldn’t come to my side
Ratchet Girl
Production is fire could hear this in the club. I believe they hit the target on this one. Although this may not be for me I can hear, see and feel what they were going for.
Quotable
A few drinks you could dig her out
But no privacy her cousin sleeping on the couch
Can’t Keep You Down
Aint nothing more important than the beginning and end. Feel like I heard this before then looking at the title ehh not a fan of recycled songs but like I said for a new listener solid song. Great bonus track if that was the goal.
Conclusion:
Music is way better than the cover artwork like I anticipated (I get the meaning just expected more.) Very Solid project Blakout definitely impressed me. A lot of substance masked behind trendy drums. If your a core Remy Hendrix fan he didn’t miss but played it very safe in my opinion. If you really listen this is a very well rounded project. Only constructive criticism I have outside of the artwork is some of the mixing but this can be overlooked. I would love to hear more from this duo and this definitely exceeded my expectations.
