After an unexpected mass shooting its only right we shed light on Buffalo, NY as El Camino delivers a hidden gem. As a very known associate of the Upstate Griselda movement, El Camino separates himself from the pack and stands on his own 10 toes.
Intro:
As the weather gets nice this Buffalo MC shows the cold aspects of life and that he’s more than an artist that is known for his features doing choruses. Very Griselda like production that every back packer loves while showcasing his lyricism and story telling.
Quotables:
“My obsession turned to me later making it out/I eye balled this shit when I shoulda just weighed it out/ I made it out, my heart is pure but soul is just fading out/ Here Im losing my senses is all I can complain about/ Tell me how I can’t tell you much but what this pain about/ See how Im still focused? See how I played it out?, but I can’t play it off”
Better Than Love:
With an unexpected cameo from New Orleans Legend Curren$y on a soulful sample El Camino continues to tell his story through vivid imagery of street tales and poverty. “I still say money feels better than love”
Quotables:
“I came from public housing sleeping on peoples couches/ Pork and beans on the stove sharing each others outfits/ Way back before these new rappers was even out yet/ They was texting my jack “where you at?” When they needed ounces”
Art Dealer:
The album picks its pace up from here as the drums kick and you can smell the murder in the air. This track closes short leaving you thirsty for more.
Quotables:
“I spent my teens and my 20s on reaching my goals/ Can’t remember the last place my house was a home”
Deep:
4 tracks in and any Griselda fan would love the production. Very home like vibes a blunt could be blazed to reminiscing on life. Hood tales at its finest as El Camino reminisces on the loss of his family members.
Quotables:
“I lost my real one/ You was my gift from under the Christmas tree, I love you, you was my real one”
Who I Am:
As the venting continues and the rhymes written in blood pour out street symphonies. This is definitely the stand out track to Tito Maya. A lot of replay value.
Quotables:
“I don’t really got anyone that I depend on for love/ Pockets 1942’s I depend on a buzz/ And when I overcome my struggles just stay where y’all was”
Won’t Show It:
The Buffalo naive continues to embrace his path as a true Hip-Hop artist not embracing the club scene. Camino speaks on artists short comings compared to his slow rise to success.
Quotables:
“I feel like I shoulda listened to Psalms/ The Lord is my Shepard but all the shit that I want/ Im from the jects so fuck it I love to stunt/ I ate the best in the beginning of the month (food stamps)”
Fashionably Late:
Lyrically driven bravado marinating in soul. Camino reminds you why he’s here to stay.
Quotable:
“I thought I needed was love, All I needed was patience/ I was moving house to house thank the Lord that im stationed/ Im scared like Jesus, up on that con ship naked”
Blind Love:
Camino definitely got in his bag on this as the production speeds up. This is a track any Hip-Hop purist would cling to as the sample sings.
Quotables:
“Looking for love in all the wrong places/ Tryin to come up and still aint learn the basics/ But I respect little niggas that’s paper chasing/ Be Great!”
Angels:
Stuntin at its finest is an understatement. Remains relatable while talking the slickest. If you love soulful NY music you have found what you desire.
Quotable:
“I can do anything, you can’t relate cause you probably aint been through anything/ They probably hate shit cause they don’t get to do anything/ That’s not living, I see why, You don’t live it/ You don’t take life serious”
James Brown:
First off who’s doin this kinda shit? Paying homage to a great while rhyming melodic soul driven excellence is always a flex. Interlude vibes but has heavy replay value!
Quotables:
“I got the big money blues, so count up my blues and bring me my shoes, you know/ Shit that I gotta get right too, you already know, the shit that Im on, stop calling my phone”
Take You:
Very new age uplifting production to sequence the album. Camino tunes back into the smooth R&B role he plays in Griselda. A Very modern rendition of a 90s R&B vibe Camino displays his versatility.
Quotables:
Just Listen
Rhude:
This is where it gets dark and Lil Babyish. This is the curve ball of the album but still remains delivering consistent trap house content.
“I turn a real nigga into a bitch Big Homie take off your necklace/ Im with the real killers we gettin rich we scratching shit off the check list”
Lauryn Would Love This:
Camino does his own singing hook and follows it up with really great raps. Shows he is the complete package in modern day Hip-Hop. Great way to close the album.
Quotables:
“What will it take me to find real love?/ Waking up next to you and I still don’t feel love/ I try to keep my distance but I know its still love/ Starting to feel like I can’t feel love”
Conclusion:
Although there is a lot of generic Griselda production who listens to a Griselda project expecting anything less? This is a great project for any Hip-Hop purist to catch a high. Very introspective, melodic yet lyrical, and gritty yet pretty. This is what I consider a work of art. Differently worth more than a skim through. This is what artist should aim for if you’re a jack of all trades. Very well done. Tito Maya signing out, until next time.
